How Brits let green standards slip

-

TWO-THIRDS of Britons picked up environmentally bad habits in lockdown, from too many takeaways to leaving all the lights on.

Ordering “fast fashion” online, taking too many baths or showers and leaving everything plugged in are other bad-for-the-planet traits we have picked up during the Covid pandemic.

Green energy firm Bulb also found a big rise in impulse buying driven by boredom, and 49% of us made purchases we now regret.

Among the weirder buys their survey uncovered were alpaca manure fertiliser, a false beard, a horse and plastic fruit.

But as restrictions begin to ease tomorrow, 51% of Britons say they aim to get their green credentials back on track by cooking more at home and eating out less (33%), shopping less (31%), walking instead of driving (26%) and eating less meat (16%).

Bulb’s Shaunagh Duncan said: “We have got a unique chance to make our post-lockdown lives greener than ever.”

The company has a carbon calculator on its website and Ms Duncan added: “It can help you understand your carbon footprint and make it simple and affordable to go carbon-neutral.”
