Bonnie time-travels with Doctor again

Star to film ‘forgotten’ episode from 35 years ago

Bonnie Langford is set for a return to Doctor Who – 35 years after she first timetravelled.

The actress reveals that just like the Time Lord, she’ll be turning back the clock after former show runner Russell T Davies told her he’d found a forgotten episode during lockdown.

Now he wants to reunite her with Colin Baker – the same Doc she was paired with – to film the secret script.

Fans will be delighted to hear the show could air as early as next year.

Titled The Lost Stories: Mind of the Hodiac, Russell describes it as “a galaxyspanning adventure as the mysterious Hodiac begins a deadly hunt, putting an ordinary Earth family in terrible danger.”

Bonnie, 56, can’t contain her excitement about the project. Speaking on Debbie McGee’s Spill The Tea Podcast, Bonnie, pictured with Colin Baker and, inset, today, says: “So it turns out that Russell watched the show when he was 14, was an avid fan and has always been an avid fan.

“When he was 14, he wrote a script on a typewriter and the Doctor and the assistant were my character (Mel), and Colin Baker. Apparently he found it in his loft during lockdown, is going to resurrect it and we’re going to record it.

“I don’t know what it’s like or what it’s about but he’s emailed me and said, ‘Would you do it?’ I said, ‘Yes, absolutely’. It’s just so fascinating.”

Bonnie played Melanie Bush from 1986 to 1987, and was the companion to both the sixth and seventh Doctors, Colin and Sylvester McCoy.

Talking about rediscovering the lost script, Channel 4’s It’s A Sin writer Russell says: “I’d forgotten all about it – a story written back in ’86 on an electric typewriter in a bedsit in Roath, Cardiff. The only copy!

“It’s an hour-long episode, plus a detailed synopsis of the second, final episode, starring the sixth Doctor and Mel.”
