Inspiring needy kids with my new chapter

- Running with terminal cancer By Kevin Webber Until next week Kev

I have just finished writing the first draft of a book about my cancer journey and it has given me a newfound respect for authors.

More on my book another time but I also received the remaining books in the Quarton sci-fi trilogy this week, written by my author friend Ian Hornett – I enjoyed the first one some time ago.

With my amateur writing experience, I now really appreciate the effort he has put in to creating these should-be bestsellers. I am already well into the second book and cherishing every page as the plot thickens.

I have always loved reading a good book, right from an early age. But while talking to Ian, I was made aware that some kids he works with don’t have the opportunity to have a new book just for themselves – so they can feel they own that tangible script and can go back to it again and again.

This got me thinking about what I could do in a small way to help. So I sent Ian some money to buy a reasonable number of his books, which he offered at cost, that could then be given to the kids he knows who would really appreciate them. So they could escape into a book too.

What blew me away though was a package that arrived at the end of the week which had thank you notes written by the recipients of our generosity. Some even made comments about my health, which was so touching.

In closing for this week, if you have the ability to start someone on a pleasurable journey using your own resources or skills, don’t pass the opportunity by. You could be igniting a lifelong passion in someone.
