Elvis bash all shook up by felons plan
PLANS to turn a seaside hotel into a halfway house for criminals would “jeopardise” the town’s worldfamous Elvis Presley Festival, say councillors.
The festival in Porthcawl is Europe’s largest gathering of fans of The King, regularly attracting up to 40,000 people.
But local councillors are worried that a bid to turn the Atlantic Hotel into a residential centre for female offenders is a threat to the town’s status – and the Elvis Festival itself.
Huw David, leader of Bridgend County Borough Council, said the Atlantic should “remain a hotel” to cater for Elvis fans and tourists. He added: “Bridgend borough is absolutely the wrong place for it to be located, and I will be vigorously opposing this.”
