Standing out on the London skyline since its opening back in 1972 as the London Metropole Hotel, the 23-storey property, renamed the Hilton London Metropole in 2000 and the largest Hilton outside of the States, will emerge in the summer from a radical multimillion-pound refurb.

In a striking transformation, all 1,096 rooms and suites will feature a bold contemporary design and its four restaurants and bars will celebrate the capital’s rich heritage.

New additions will include a street market-style dining option and a state-of-the-art fitness studio.

■■Hip hotel brand Ace has got Brooklyn in its sights, aiming for a late spring opening for its second New York City location.

Set on the edge of Downtown Brooklyn and Boerum Hill, the 287-room Ace Hotel Brooklyn will be one of its largest properties to date, and a stroll away from iconic Brooklyn Bridge, the classic brownstones of Cobble Hill and the green oasis of Prospect Park.

From the massive timbers in the lobby and the blooming indoor garden, the boutique hotel has been cleverly designed to be in harmony with the arty neighbourhood.
