Trophy is the target for Bears

PAT LAM believes Bristol are ready to mount a strong Heineken Champions Cup challenge – with lifting the trophy the end goal.

Bristol top the

Gallagher Premiership and face a last-16 European tie at Bordeaux Begles today, a rematch of last season’s Challenge Cup semi-final, which the Bears won after extra-time before beating Toulon in the final.

“I made it very clear that winning the Champions Cup is on our wall,” said Bears director of rugby Lam (right).

“This is what we have worked for. This isn’t a one-off season.

“We are in to our fourth season growing, developing, and all geared to it.

“When I said this a lot of people scoffed at it.

“People probably thought we should be thinking about just getting promoted to the Premiership, but you have to have that goal.

“I said then I wanted Bristol to be seen as a team in the Champions Cup – and ideally win the Champions Cup.”
