Courtois: I’m better then ever

- BY SIMON MULLOCK

FORMER Chelsea keeper Thibaut Courtois believes he is at the peak of his powers ahead of his bid for a La Liga, Champions League and Euro 2020 treble.

Courtois, 28, will be tasked with keeping Liverpool’s lethal attack at bay when Jurgen Klopp’s side face Real Madrid at the Bernabeu on Tuesday night.

But three years after leaving Stamford Bridge to join the Spanish giants, the 6ft 7in Belgian insists he is now showing his best form for club and country.

Courtois said: “A goalkeeper reaches their best years between the ages of 28 and 34 - and I am right in there now.

“I have made a big progression since the World Cup of 2018.

“I did have a difficult first year at Real Madrid, but I did not doubt my own ability.

“The big difference is that the work I do with the ball at my feet has seen an evolution under Zinedine Zidane.

“He demands that I can get out of pressure situations by playing football at the back with the rest of the team.

“The way things have gone this season, I already feel that I am the happiest person in the world.

“But that feeling will be even greater if we win another title and if I win the Euros with Belgium.”
