LEANDRO’S BELGIAN BONUS

- BY DAVID SNEYD

GRAHAM POTTER wants Leandro Trossard to build on the self-belief bonus the Brighton striker will have earned on international duty with Belgium.

Trossard, 26, is set to line up for the Seagulls at Old Trafford this evening having scored a brace against Belarus in midweek and had Belgium manager Roberto Martinez praising his “maturity”.

Brighton boss Potter said: “He just needs a belief in his own ability, a confidence in himself and his team-mates.

“He is adding goals and assists to his game and that is part of the development process. The more he assists and the more he scores, the more he will believe in himself, I’m sure.”

Potter added: “We love Leandro, but he’s not the happiest in his facial expressions, bless him.

“He’s a quiet guy, but a good team-mate – he’s got a dry sense of humour and you’ll see a cheeky smile, a cheeky grin. He knows the importance of the stage he’s at. He wants to get into the world’s top international team.”

Republic of Ireland striker Aaron Connolly,

21, is at a different stage – and his club boss urged him to go a bit easier on himself.

Potter said: “I think Aaron’s very self-critical. Sometimes too much. That’s the challenge when you are developing young players.

“They are used to succeeding and have got to this level because they succeed all the time – but the Premier League is not as easy.”
