GARETH’S FANCY THREE

- BY IAN BAKER

WYCOMBE boss Gareth Ainsworth has revealed he has been inspired by former Chelsea manager Antonio Conte.

The Chairboys switched to wing-backs for the first time this season and won 1-0 against Blackburn on Friday – with the new style likely to remain for the trip to relegation-rivals Rotherham.

Ainsworth (right) said:

“We worked on three at the back for two weeks, I’ve wanted to put it in place for a while. We reviewed a lot of Chelsea under

Conte when they did it. I’ve watched a number of teams playing three at the back over the last few weeks and picking up little titbits.”

Rotherham boss Paul Warne admits losing captain Richard Wood to suspension is a headache he could have done without for the survival battle. Centre-half Wood was sent-off against Millwall on Friday and there are still injury concerns about defenders Matt Olosunde and Clark Robertson.

Warne said: “Having your captain sent off, it becomes more pertinent if other defenders might be out.”
