Dunny’s Hairdryer

-

THE suits at UEFA should just go the whole hog and allow national team managers to take as many as they want to the Euros.

Just bring the lot, chaps.

The continuing effects of Covid have apparently prompted UEFA to consider allowing an expansion of the normal 23-man squad.

However, it would not be a rule change due to the pandemic – but one just for the sake of it.

Just as the five-substitute rule was a change for the sake of it. The farce of five subs will now be a feature of the Euros. Why?

The excuse was concern for player welfare. Utter nonsense.

In the recent FA Cup tie against Leicester City, Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer (above) sent on Bruno Fernandes, Luke Shaw, Edinson Cavani and Scott McTominay in the 64th minute.

Why? Because of concern for the welfare of Alex Telles, Fred, Nemanja Matic and Paul Pogba?

No – because United were 2-1 down and he wanted his best players on the field.

Thankfully, the Premier League have resisted the five-sub rule.

And UEFA should have resisted it... as well as squad expansion.

But they probably won’t … because change for change’s sake is their speciality.

THE annual publication of the amount of money earned by agents seems to be having less of an impact with every year that passes.

Another £272million pocketed in 2020-21? Ah, so what.

And if there is a reaction, the common one is to bemoan the fact that such a large amount is being “taken out of the game”.

But it is not being “taken out of the game”, it is being taken out of YOUR pockets. It comes from the TV subscriptions, the merchandise sale, the rip-off kit prices, etc, etc.

That is why we should all be angry about agents’ obscene fees.
