TOMKINS SHINES WITH CATALANS

SAM TOMKINS turned on the style to lead 2018 Challenge Cup winners Catalans into this year’s quarter-finals.
The full back produced several moments of magic and also kept a cool head to constantly keep the pressure on Trinity.
Dragons coach Steve McNamara said: “There are some outstanding full backs in the competition but what separates Sam is he’s a genuine leader on and off the field.”
Tomkins opened the scoring with his first try of the season but Catalans only led 8-6 at the break, with James Maloney adding two goals. But they dominated after the break with tries from Josh Drinkwater, Tom Davies and Gil Dudson (above), with Maloney kicking three further goals.
Trinity coach Chris Chester said: “Tomkins was the difference.”
