Leicester battle on to semis
LEICESTER TIGERS clawed nearer to bringing back some European glory days to Welford Road by thrashing Newcastle Falcons in an all-English Challenge Cup battle.
The last-eight win also showed just why Warren Gatland has been keen to enlist Steve Borthwick’s services for his British and Irish Lions mission.
Ex-England lock Borthwick sidestepped questions on his availability for the trip to South Africa – but this was another win which demonstrated what an outstanding job he has done since taking charge of a club badly in need of a shot in the arm.
Leicester head coach Borthwick insisted: “We are trying to make fans proud and very much look forward to having them back in the ground.
This club built a habit of losing a lot of games and we’re trying to change that. The players’ attitude has been excellent from day one I came in.
“Our scrum laid the platform here. I want to build competition throughout this squad as we are on a long journey and are making strides.”
