Gillingham 0 Shrewsbury

-

STEVE EVANS rued a host of missed chances that he fears could come back to haunt Gillingham. Vadaine Oliver miscued an effort, while Connor Ogilvie headed straight at Matija Sarkic before contriving to hit a post from two yards out as the hosts saw their play-off hopes suffer a setback.

“There was silence in the dressing room,” said Evans.

“The boys have been absolutely terrific, but three or four of them

didn’t get the quality out of the bag today. Football is about making chances and we made three big, big chances.

“Vadaine Oliver should score and Connor Ogilvie has the easiest chance I’ve ever seen.”

Shrewsbury almost snatched victory at the death, only for Harry Chapman’s long-range strike to be deflected just past a post by defender Jack Tucker.

Assistant manager Aaron Wilbraham said: “There wasn’t one player we had to carry today, from one to 11.”
