Cowley: It’s over

Portsmouth Burton

DANNY COWLEY admits Portsmouth’s slim hopes of automatic promotion are over.

Goals from Mike Fondop and Josh Powell consigned Cowley to his first defeat in charge at Fratton Park.

The loss left the hosts 12 points off second place.

He said: “I did not think the top two was available to us.

We have won four games so we have to suck up the disappointment of today.

“We conceded a really soft first goal and when you do that against a team like Burton you make it difficult for yourselves.

Charlie Daniels’ late consolation was the only frustration for Burton boss Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink.

“I am really pleased with the result,” he said. “I felt a little disappointed with their goal.”
