University talking my language
Hull University says it will no longer deduct marks because of bad spelling.
There is a logic to this because language is always changing and what’s right at one time is wrong later. No one now complains because Gary Lineker doesn’t say: “Forsooth sire, an away goal for West Bromwich Albion, I contend.”
And it might bring a whole new audience to history, if Simon Schama’s next book on Tudor England started: “Henree the Aith fell owt with the Poap bekoz he wonted to marrie An Berlin, leeving Chewder Ingland in a right pickle.”
