Biden’s plea to end mass US shootings
JOE Biden has branded mass shootings a “national embarrassment” to America that must be stopped.
A day after eight people were shot dead at a FedEx depot in Indianapolis, the US President urged Congress to ban militarystyle assault weapons.
“Too many Americans are dying every single day from gun violence,” he said.
“It stains our character and pierces the very soul of our nation.”
Mr Biden faces an uphill battle to tighten laws, even though guns took 43,539 American lives in 2020.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said she was “horrified” by Friday’s attack and urged “common sense” on gun control.
Police named former FedEx worker Brandon Scott Hole as the gunman.
