1 in 6 tenants keep secret pets at home

-

ONE in six people who rent their home admit to keeping a pet without the landlord’s permission.

But while only seven per cent of rental homes are advertised as pet-friendly, 10 times that number of owners would not object.

A survey by insurers Direct Line found only 30 per cent of landlords say they would not allow pets.

And of 200 polled, 45 per cent backed the Government’s revised Model Tenancy Agreement that encourages allowing pets.

Direct Line’s Jamie Chaplin said: “It’s good news for animal-loving tenants. It looks like more pet owners can rent without worrying about breaching their terms.”
