Root back with ton

-

JOE ROOT was back in the runs with a classy century to put Yorkshire in a commanding position against Kent.

After three low scores to start the new season, the England skipper hit 101 to help his side set Kent an improbable target of 445.

And with Zak Crawley falling before the close to reduce the hosts to 33-2, Yorkshire are on course for a win at Canterbury today.

Fellow England teammate Ollie Pope smashed a double ton for Surrey against Leicestershire.

Pope’s 245 in Surrey’s mammoth first-innings total of 672-8 declared leaves them favourites to finish the job today.
