THUNDER WILL GO LIKE LIGHTNING

- BY DAVID YATES

MIGHTY THUNDER gets the Nap vote to foil market leader Aye Right’s bid for today’s Scottish National.

The Lucinda Russelltrained eight-year-old has come a long way in a short time over fences, having started his career over the larger obstacles with scores at Hexham in

October and November. He failed to match those efforts when below part at Kelso 19 days before Christmas, but was awesome in the Edinburgh National at Musselburgh in February.

Sent off at 14-1, my selection relished the opportunity to race beyond four miles for the first time with a 20-length margin of victory. Following a 10lb rise in the weights, Mighty Thunder turned in another excellent effort in the

Midlands Grand National at Uttoxeter on the Saturday of Cheltenham week.

Although unable to withstand the late thrust of Time To Get Up – he went under by one length at the line – Mighty Thunder emerged with plenty of credit against a lightly-raced winner.

Regular rider Blair Campbell misses today’s ride with a hand injury, but Tom Scudamore will prove an able deputy.
