BREN’S BEEN CUP & AT ‘EM
WHAT a glorious chance it is for either Leicester or Southampton to reach a prestige final... and give something concrete to their fans.
And do you know what, they both deserve it, because I’ve noticed their managers have been resolute in picking strong teams this season in the FA Cup. Both have shown they have the desire to win it.
Brendan Rodgers (above) knows Leicester have a great team and the Cup is his best chance of delivering a trophy to the club.
I saw even in the early rounds at Stoke he took no risks, picked pretty much the strongest line up available to him, with Jamie Varday injured at that time, to ensure there would be no slipups in a tricky tie.
They won 4-0. They beat United, too, by not compromising too much, as their opponent did.
Southampton did the same in their quarterfinal, picking pretty much a first-team lineup at Bournemouth, which could have been a real banana skin.
I like that, because I’ve always said I believe passionately in the momentum of winning, and that playing weakened teams is a mistake in my opinion.
And it’s the FA Cup, for goodness sake. One of the most prestigious competitions in football history.
I’d love whoever wins this semi-final to go on and win the final, just because they have treated the competition with respect. They deserve that chance, and good luck to them.
