United in Saul hunt

MANCHESTER UNITED have been alerted to the availability of Atletico Madrid captain Saul Niguez as they step up their search for a defensive midfielder.

The La Liga leaders need to sell at least two players this summer to free up funds for signings.

Barcelona and Bayern Munich are interested, but the 26-year-old is keen to explore options in the Premier League.

Saul’s deal has a year left to run from June and has a release clause of around £43million.

But the financial issues facing Spanish clubs due to Covid-19 means many want to renegotiate contracts and Saul is an ideal candidate to leave.
