STEVE COOPER admitted Swan blew a big chance to move closer to Watford on the final bend — but backs them to catch their rivals on the nervy final straight.

The race for the second automatic promotion place behind Norwich should be much tighter with Watford having lost to Luton.

But rather than use Wycombe as lapped back marker, the Swans almost tripped up — going 2-0 down before snatching a precious point thanks to a Jamal Lowe penalty and Liam Cullen’s late leveller.

It means instead of being just four points behind second-place Watford with four games to go, the gap is still a lengthy one at six points.

Cooper insists both he and his team still believe automatic promotion is on — just as Wycombe boss Gareth Ainsworth holds faith his team can avoid the drop, even though they surrendered a second-half lead given to them by Admiral Muskwe and Garath McCleary.

Swan were outplayed for an hour, during which Wycombe’s physicality and determination unsettled the hosts, but the Welsh side showed resilience to level before both sides had chances to win the game.

Worse for the Swans was the fact they lost top scorer Andre Ayew early on with a hamstring injury that must make him a doubt for the run-in.
