STEWART SLAMS ‘DUMB’ SURREY SIDE

-

MIDDLESEX’S seamers sparked a remarkable SURREY collapse as the home side wrapped up an unexpected 10-wicket London derby win inside seven sessions at Lord’s.

Resuming on 105-3, Surrey lost their last seven wickets for just 25 runs inside 17 overs. Ethan Bamber had Rory Burns caught behind off the first ball of the day and the domino effect that followed saw the visitors dismissed for 130 in little more than an hour.

Bamber, Tim Murtagh and Toby

Roland-Jones left Middlesex just 17 to win, with Max Holden and Sam Robson knocking them off.

Surrey director of cricket Alec Stewart said: “We all make mistakes, always have and always will, but making the same mistakes over and over – that’s just dumb.”

Craig Overton’s 5-25 set up a nine-wicket victory for SOMERSET against LEICESTERSHIRE, who were bowled out for 199. It left the visitors a target of 115, which they knocked off after tea thanks to an unbeaten 70 by Tom Lammonby.

Spinner Dom Bess’s 5-33 at Hove put YORKSHIRE on top against SUSSEX, who require 99 more runs but only have four wickets left.

Forgotten England batsman Haseeb Hameed made his first ton since 2019 for NOTTINGHAMSHIRE yet WORCESTERSHIRE were still able to enforce the follow-on.

A century from captain Daniel Bell-Drummond gave KENT a fighting chance of salvaging a draw against LANCASHIRE, although the hosts still trail by 147.

HAMPSHIRE enforced the follow-on after a final-session collapse saw GLOUCESTERSHIRE dismissed for 320. Spinners Liam Dawson and Mason Crane took five wickets between them.

Nick Selman’s half-century helped GLAMORGAN to a lead of 248 with six wickets remaining against NORTHAMPTONSHIRE.

DURHAM head into the final day against DERBYSHIRE needing 10 wickets after Chris Rushworth had earlier became the county’s secondhighest first-class wicket-taker.

ESSEX lead WARWICKSHIRE by 224 runs with one wicket remaining as Simon Harmer and Dan Lawrence hit half-centuries.
