Klopp: I’m VAR from pleased...

under fire from angry Reds fans. Any new deal would be worth over £3bn and represent a huge profit for FSG, who paid £300million for the club in 2010.

Earlier in the month they sold a 10 per cent stake to RedBird Capital for £543m indicating in some quarters that their interest was waning.

Henry issued a grovelling apology to Liverpool fans following the Reds’ withdrawal from the league on Tuesday, but that has not quelled the fury on Merseyside.

The fans weren’t happy either with the 1-1 draw with Newcastle at Anfield yesterday that further dented Liverpool’s Champions League hopes.

Kop boss Jurgen Klopp bemoaned their failure to take their chances as Joe Willock scored a last-gasp goal to secure a priceless point for Newcastle.

Mo Salah had given the Reds a third-minute lead, and Klopp said: “We kept them alive by missing our chances. Even when we got our first bit of luck with VAR, we couldn’t even take that present.

“Newcastle fought for it and we got nothing pretty much. If you deserve, you deserve it. Today I didn’t see us deserve to be playing in the Champions League next year.”

Toon boss Steve Bruce (above) called on football to boot out VAR.

Just before Willock’s leveller, Callum Wilson had a goal disallowed by a cruel handball decision after a VAR check.

Bruce said: “We have just brought down the European Super League with opinion – hopefully we can get rid of VAR as well.

“It is a nonsense that Callum’s goal was ruled out for handball because it wasn’t deliberate.

“It isn’t VAR that’s the problem. It is the fact that it was brought in to correct clear and obvious mistakes and everything is done by the letter of the law.

“It is ruining the game and it has to be addressed.

“We’ve scored two goals in the last minute, and should have won 2-1. That’s me being greedy, but VAR is killing the game.”
