Gerrard takes double check

Scottish Round-Up

STEVEN GERRARD insists it is still too early for him to be dreaming about doubling up on RANGERS’ historic title triumph.

The Ibrox boss (above) has fulfilled the club’s 10-year quest to regain their place at the top of Scottish football after leading Gers to the title.

And there is also further silverware to chase this term with the Scottish Cup.

Gerrard is refusing to get carried away ahead of today’s tricky quarter-final against ST JOHNSTONE.

Asked if he had dared to dream of becoming the first Rangers boss since 2009 to secure the double, Gerrard said: “I haven’t really given it too much thought.

“There’s too many big games and important obstacles to get over first.”

HIBERNIAN brushed off a MOTHERWELL comeback to reach the cup semi-finals following a penalty shoot-out at Easter Road.

Motherwell scored twice in the final eight minutes to make it 2-2 but Hibs won 4-2 on spot-kicks to reach the last four in a fourth consecutive cup campaign.

Hibernian looked to be heading to Hampden without much trouble when Jackson Irvine added to Christian Doidge’s opener with 10 minutes left.

But Ricki Lamie and substitute Tony Watt scored to send the game into extra-time. After a goalless extra 30 minutes, Ryan Porteous kept his nerve to send Hibs into the semis.

JACK GREALISH has been one of the lucky few to get into a stadium to watch Premier League football.

Trouble is he would rather be playing. And Gareth Southgate would rather he be playing.

The vagueness that continues to surround Grealish’s problem must remain a major worry for the England boss. Having missed the past nine Prem matches, it is now thought Grealish (above) will be out from another three – at least.

“I have no doubts he will be OK for the Euros,” said Aston Villa manager Dean Smith.

Only there is so much competition for midfield and attacking places in Southgate’s squad that Grealish will not be OK if he does not turn out again for Villa this season.

If the ludicrous suggestion to increase the Euros squad size from 23 to 25 does actually come to fruition, then maybe Southgate can gamble with the odd selection.

But otherwise, he cannot. Grealish is very good... but not good enough to breeze into an England squad if he has not played for four months.
