Why Kate could be H

By Vicky McLure’s mum

- BY SARAH ROBERTSON

I’M in the interview room with Line of Duty star Vicky McClure’s mother Carol and desperately want to know: Who the heck is H?

If anyone is aware of the crime gang baddie’s identity, it will be her. So come on Carol – out with it!

Silence. Carol is one schtum mum. But it’s not because she’s mastered the art of stonewalling or that the OCG has somehow got to her.

She simply doesn’t know because Vicky hasn’t told her.

Carol – a huge fan of the show who is as keen as anyone to see tonight’s series finale – isn’t inclined to ask.

But hang on a minute. Vicky, 37, plays DI Kate Fleming. Could she be the police drama’s mystery rogue?

Speaking exclusively to the Sunday Mirror, Carol says: “We don’t know anything, 100% not.

“We don’t know who H is, absolutely not, she’s keeping that in the bag!

“Who knows? My daughter’s lovely but it could be her, it could be anybody.

“We love it and watch it like everybody else and it will be just as much of a surprise for us. We wouldn’t want to be in a position to know.

“We’re big fans of the show, we’ve watched all of them. In fact, we watch everything’s Vicky’s been in.”

DEBRIEF

Carol, a facilities manager at a finance company, and her husband Mick both love sitting down for the Sunday night 9pm drama on BBC One.

Once it finishes, the pair are straight on the phone to Vicky, who lives just down the road in their native Nottingham, for a chinwag… or debrief, to use police speak.

Carol admits she has been left baffled by all the jargon used in Line of Duty.

There’s OCG (Organised Crime Group), AFO (Authorised Firearms Officers) and CIS (Crime Information System) – not to be confused with CHIS (Covert Human Intelligence Source).

Carol says: “All those police terms… I don’t understand them. It’s full of them.

“I guess people look them up and find out what they mean. It adds to the excitement.”

Carol is rightly “very proud” of her hard-working daughter, who is engaged to fellow actor and producer Jonny Owen, 49.

But she says there were some tense moments when Vicky was in Belfast filming the latest series during the height of the pandemic.

“I worried about her while she was away, we were worried for each other,” she says.

“But I know they were keeping her safe so there was no problem. She was being looked after.”

Vicky has starred in all six seasons of

Jed Mercurio’s award

MILLIONS know him as toughtalking Supt Hastings – but when he’s not appearing in Line of Duty, Adrian Dunbar is a sweetie.

The actor was filmed tucking into a prosecco and strawberry cheesecake baked by his daughter Madeleine for a social media clip.

Ditching his LoD catchphrase ‘Mother of God’, Adrian, 62, instead exclaimed: “That’s a really nice plate of food… I’d pay good money for that, I really would.”

Madeleine, a songwriter, actress and food vlogger, loves sharing Instagram snaps of family life with the man she calls “Da”.

Fans lapped up an image of Adrian wearing glasses as he tried more of Madeleine’s cooking.

And she shared a black and white shot of the actor cuddling her when she was little – and he was bearded.

FOR ‘DA’ Madeleine shows off dessert winning police drama, which first aired in 2012.

A trailer for the final episode is typically intriguing. It features a big shootout and anti-corruption squad AC-12 closing in on the mystery H.

Other clips show police cars speeding down the road, with armed officers closing in on a residential area.
