Line of Duty Vicky’s mum: I think Kate could be H

- Sarah.robertson@reachplc.com

played by Adrian Dunbar, tells his officers, “AFOs will secure the suspect”, – as words trail across the screen saying: “Every investigation has led to this… H.”

So Die-hard Line of Duty fans could, at last, find out who the mystery Mr Big – or Mrs – really is.

Kate and fellow DI Steve Arnott (Martin Compston) are also seen poring over the clue that H misspells ‘definitely’ as ‘definately’.

And eagle-eyed fans have spotted that Supt Hastings also makes the same spelling error – leading to suspicions he may be linked to the OCG.

But it gets even more gripping as balaclava-clad men jump out of vehicles armed with guns. In a face-off with the OCG, Kate opens a van door, gun pointed and shouts, “armed police!” before the screen turns black.

Carol, on the edge of her seat, says: “God, yes, the show has just got bigger and better. It’s her best role ever.”

HEALING

But the proud mum, who also has older daughter Jenny, is equally chuffed with Vicky’s work off-screen.

The actress started a choir for people with dementia after witnessing the healing powers of music when her maternal grandmother Iris fell victim to the disease and died in 2015.

Carol says: “That’s another one of her best roles. She’s very passionate about the choir. She Zoom calls all the members every weekend, even when she’s away and busy working. That’s the kind of girl she is. She’s still fully involved and it’s very close to her heart.”

The actress, whose paternal gran Jean, 96, is still alive, has previously spoken about dementia sufferers facing an even bigger struggle during lockdown – and how it had accelerated their decline. Vicky said: “It’s helpful to have routine. At the moment, that’s not there.” Vicky shot to fame after working with Nottingham director Shane Meadows on hits like This Is England, which began with a 2006 movie and sparked a C4 spin-off.

She is more than happy in the East Midlands and once said of her choice to stay in the area: “It makes me laugh that it’s such a big deal.

“I find it more extreme that Martin Compston lives in Las Vegas.

“I live in my home town. I always said I can’t stay here [London] because… I begrudge paying that much for a pint. It really does p**s me off.”

Carol also reveals lockdown forced Vicky to postpone her wedding and said: “I doubt it will happen this year because she’s too busy working.”

But she declined to say what her daughter’s new roles were – or if there will be a seventh series of LoD.

“I honestly don’t know about a new series,” she says.

“I don’t ask, not because I don’t want to know, but I don’t want her to be put in any position.”

OK, Carol… thanks for your co-operation. Interview terminated.
