Full Inglis for Wolves

AUSSIE ACE GREG’S BACK WITH A BANG 50

- Warrington BY JULIE STOTT

AUSSIE superstar Greg Inglis celebrated his long-awaited return with a well worked try.

The 34-year-old centre, who hasn’t played for two years, backed himself from 10 metres out and twisted his way past four players.

Inglis said: “I was glad to cross the line. There were massive nerves.”

But, apart from the try, this was far from a vintage display by one of rugby league’s all-time great players.

He looked rusty in the first half, hardly seeing the ball, and when he did he often fluffed his chance.

But, as soon as the second half kicked off, he looked determined to make an impact and went hunting the ball.

Daryl Clark’s dummy half-pass found Inglis on the short side and he powered over to get his Wolves career up and running with his 200th career try.

A switch to full-back, when Matty Ashton went off injured, seemed to suit him even better and he helped repay the service to Clark as the Wolves try tally started to rack up.

Inglis added: “I wasn’t great but I knew it wasn’t going to be.

“There was no pressure on me to be what I used to be.

“I was probably a four or five out of 10 in the first half and a seven in the second, but I will get better.”

Head coach Steve Price said: “For a first hit-out I thought he did a really good job. He went to full-back and started to create a high level of calmness amongst the group which was pleasing.”

Rovers were worthy half-time 18-12 leaders thanks to tries from Shaun Kenny-Dowall, Ryan Hall and Jordan Abdull.

Warrington turned the game around completely in the second half, outscoring Rovers by seven tries to two.

Rovers head coach Tony Smith said: “I felt we competed really well in the first half but in the second half we inflicted a lot of pain on ourselves.”

Josh Charnley and Ben Currie each grabbed two Wolves tries, with Jake Mamo, Danny Walker and Toby King also scoring.

Hall grabbed a second for Rovers and Kane Linnett also touched down.
