Gwyn and tonic? Nah, I’d prefer a quinoa whiskey

How lockdown drove Goop queen to drink

She may be the queen of healthy living, but even hit the bottle during the pandemic.

Gwyneth Paltrow

The 48-year-old actress, who is behind healthy lifestyle brand Goop, came up with her own “fantastic drink called the Buster Paltrow”, which is made from quinoa whiskey.

Gwyneth explains: “I drank alcohol during quarantine.

“I was drinking seven nights a week and making pasta and eating bread. I went totally off the rails.

“I mean, who drinks multiple drinks seven nights a week? Like that’s not healthy. I love whiskey and I make this fantastic drink called the Buster Paltrow, which I named after my grandfather who loved whiskey sours.

“And it’s this great quinoa whiskey from this distillery in Tennessee with maple syrup and lemon juice. It’s just heaven. I would have two of those every night of quarantine.”

Gwyneth says she was “not, like, black-out” drunk but admits she still hankers after a cigarette after a few drinks. “I miss it,” she says. Gwyneth’s latest TV project The Goop Lab emerged on Netflix last January and was less than a headline-grabbing hit.

While the show has been renewed for a second season, a source close to Gwyneth claims it was “by the skin of its teeth”. And there is also the added pressure of celebrity wellness gurus moving into her territory.

“This isn’t about money for Gwyneth – it’s about proving the naysayers wrong,” the insider tells me.

“That’s what it’s always been about for her.” It sounds like a load of Goop to me.

Speaking on the BRITs Top Table with Mastercard podcast, she says: “My kind of main experiences with the BRITs have always been like me trying to weasel my way in to an afterparty even though I’m not invited.” Sounds familiar.

Meanwhile, I can reveal awardwinning actor Billy Porter will be in London to present one of the coveted trophies on the night.

Dua Lipa has been grafting ahead of her highly-anticipated performance at the BRITs. But the nominee admits she is looking forward to drinking some Aperol and letting her hair down on the dance floor when it’s all over. Bring on the afterparty. Next year, perhaps?

Coldplay frontman Chris Martin likes to climb Glastonbury’s Pyramid stage in the winter and sing to the cows. He tells Zoe Ball’s Radio 2 show: “I like to sit and think about what we’re going to do and just look at the cows and the grass, and think,

‘OK, I’ll imagine you’re people’.” Luckily, it won’t just be cows that
