Amy’s bid to black
Star’s ‘emotional’ family sell frocks and bags for charity
SOME of the most iconic outfits worn by singer Amy Winehouse are being auctioned off for charity.
A decade after the star’s death, a treasure trove of memorabilia is being sold by her family with proceeds going to the Amy Winehouse Foundation for disadvantaged young people.
Among the items going under the hammer are a red heart-shaped bag, which Amy took to the
BRIT Awards in 2007.
She teamed the leather bag with a dazzling yellow frock and it is now tipped to fetch £14,000.
Auctioneers expect to receive a similar sum for a foliagethemed Naomi
Parry dress that
Amy wore for her last show in Belgrade, Serbia.
The gig, in June 2011, came a month before the Back To Black star’s death from alcohol poisoning.
Amy’s dad Mitch, 70, who runs the Amy Winehouse Foundation with ex-wife Janis, said: “Amy’s belongings were in a giant lock-up. The family decided that while we would keep the most personal items for ourselves, auctioning others would help those in need.
“It’s overwhelmingly emotional seeing her lovely dresses hanging on the rails.
“We know Amy would prefer they raised money for those in need, rather than simply languishing in storage. It seems a fitting way to raise funds in her name.” The outfits will be sold by Beverly Hillsbased Julien’s Auctions in November after they have been showcased on a world tour.
A black and orange Tina Kalivas skirt Amy wore to accept five Grammys in 2008 is valued at £3,500. A ruched netted dress could go for £5,000 while a shell purse is set to fetch £800.
Lace bras, ballet pumps and bustiers are also the among the items being sold.
The BBC will mark the 10th anniversary of Amy’s death with a documentary offering a “new female-driven interpretation of her life, her loves and her legacy”.
