Women set to battle for leadership
LABOUR MPs are gearing up for an all-female party leadership election amid growing expectation that Keir Starmer could face a challenge within the year.
Speculation is focusing on the left’s favourite, deputy leader Angela Rayner, and Shadow Chancellor Rachel Reeves, with one insider saying: “Keir is a dead man walking politically. The recent election results and botched reshuffle show he’s not the man to beat Boris.”
Opposing factions have agreed a “phoney peace” in the run-up to the Batley and Spen by-election, a marginal “red wall” seat.
Mr Starmer is expected to face a showdown over lack of direction at the autumn party conference.
