Sunday drive speeders are ‘risking lives’

- BY STEPHEN HAYWARD

SPEEDING lockdown drivers have been slammed for “putting lives at risk” – especially on Sundays.

Analysis of traffic speeds from January to March shows motorists took advantage of quieter roads to speed, the RAC says.

Department for Transport figures show 56 per cent broke the 30mph limit in built up areas – up three percentage points on the same period last year.

Half of drivers on motorways went over 70mph, up from 46 per cent before.

Sundays were the worst days for speeding.

RAC spokesman Simon Williams said: “Given compliance was worst on 30mph limit roads, this dangerous behaviour unnecessarily put lives at risk when more people were walking and cycling.”
