Fury over £94m deal for Amazon
AMAZON has been given £94m of taxpayers’ cash despite anger over how little it pays in UK taxes.
That is the cost of a new contract awarded to the online giant for digital services for the HMRC. It comes on top of £200m of deals already signed with the Government.
Amazon’s UK online sales rose to £20bn in the pandemic. It paid £293m in corporate tax in 2019.
Unite’s Sharon Graham said it is “unbelievable” deals are going to a firm “steeped in corporate irre
BIG MONEY sponsibility”. She added the union wants to stop Amazon getting deals until it “guarantees workers’ rights to join unions”.
The HMRC said it is “committed” to making sure everyone pays fair tax. Amazon said it respects rights “to join, form, or not to join a union”.
