MAYA THE BEE 3: THE GOLDEN ORB

Cert U ★★★ In cinemas tomorrow

-

It was one film too many for both The Godfather and The Hangover series but plucky Maya produces a buzz in her third big screen adventure.

The sweet-natured bee (again voiced by Coco Jack Gillies) and her nervous best pal Willie (Benson Jack Anthony) are in hot water after unleashing a stampede of glow-worms into the hive.

When they overhear the Queen (Justine Clarke) planning to split them up unless something “very special” happens, the panicked pair head out into the wilderness.

There, Maya senses a chance to prove herself when she helps local ants by flying a mysterious golden orb to a remote colony with a gang of nasty beetles in hot pursuit.

On the way, there are songs, bright and breezy animation (much improved from the last instalment) and mildly perilous chase scenes that should only upset the most sensitive of little flowers. There’s nothing here for parents but young children will learn lessons about courage, compassion and teamwork.
