JOE ROOT fell for 99 as he found County Championsh­ip form for YORKSHIRE before he joins up for England duty.

The Test skipper has struggled for runs this term but he stepped up his preparatio­ns to face New Zealand on June 2 with an eye-catching innings.

Root played on to Dan Douthwaite – the first time he’s been dismissed on 99 in his career.

He still helped Yorkshire gain a healthy advantage over GLAMORGAN, who lost Aussie star Marnus Labuschagn­e for a duck and ended on 108-3 at the close, a lead of 27.

In a low-scoring affair at Lord’s, HAMPSHIRE skittled MIDDLESEX out for 101 second time around and knocked off the 66 runs for victory to win by seven wickets.

Jack Leaning (60 not out) and Zak Crawley (87) combined to help KENT have the better of SUSSEX at Hove, building a lead of 109 with seven wickets left.

Off-spinner Simon Harmer bowled careerbest figures of 9-80 for ESSEX as DERBYSHIRE were blown away for 146.

The visitors were asked to follow on but improved second time around to end on 97-1 and trail by 169.

Jack Burnham and Will Young both hit centuries for DURHAM as they set WORCESTERS­HIRE 423 to win. The visitors had reached 60-0 at the close.
