Wasps are calm after seeing red

-

Wasps 23 19 WASPS scrum-half Dan Robson called for consistency after teammate Ben Morris received the 19th red card in the Premiership this season.

Lee Blackett’s side survived Morris’s 59th-minute dismissal – for a high tackle on Worcester centre Ollie Lawrence – to beat West Midlands rivals Worcester and boost their bid for a top-eight finish.

England international Robson said: “We kept calm after the red card and got the job done.

“The frustrating thing about Ben’s dismissal is that what you want as players is consistency.

“Charlie Ewels made a similar challenge during Bath’s game against Sale on Friday night and he got a yellow card, while Ben received a red.

“I have seen yellow and red cards given for virtually nothing and once we get consistency, there will be no problem.”

After Brad Shields’ try, a Worcester fightback saw Sam Lewis cross and three of Wasps old boy Billy Searle’s four penalties put the Warriors into the lead.

But Tommy Taylor scored a try converted by Jacob Umaga as the hosts clung on.

Blackett said: “To hold on was massive for us.

“We want to qualify for next season’s Champions Cup and that is still very much on.”

Worcester are rooted to the bottom but head coach Jonathan Thomas said: “When you are on a losing run you tend to be down on your luck.

“But heads did not drop. We were in it to the end.”
