ZLAT OUT OF EUROS
ZLATAN IBRAHIMOVIC has been ruled out of this summer’s Euros with a knee injury – just two months after coming out of international retirement.
The 39-year-old striker reversed his decision to hang up his boots for Sweden and was recalled in March following a fiveyear absence.
But the AC Milan boss Stefano Pioli (above) has told Sweden manager Janne Andersson (below) that he will not make the tournament as he faces six weeks on the sidelines.
“Of course, it feels sad, especially for Zlatan, but also for us,” Andersson said. Ibrahimovic suffered the knee problem playing for Milan in a victory at Juventus on May 9.
Ex-Manchester United favourite Ibrahimovic (above), who has scored 62 times for Sweden and is his country’s record goalscorer, limped off in the 3-0 win over the Old Lady that boosted Milan’s hopes of finishing in the top four of Serie A.
And his lay-off is certain to bring the curtain down on his brilliant international career for good.
Sweden face one of the favourites, Spain, in Seville in their first match of the tournament on June 14, before playing Slovakia and Poland in Group E.
