Jenni raising the Bar

- By TOM HOPKINSON

JENNI HERMOSO and her Barcelona team-mates are on a mission to stop Chelsea trio Pernille Harder, Samantha Kerr and Fran Kirby – and move another step closer to their Treble.

They face off tonight in the Champions League Final, and in 10 days’ time La Liga champions Barca take on Madrid CFF in the first leg of their Copa de la Reina semi-final.

Hermoso (right), who sits alongside Kirby as the Champions League top scorer this season on six goals, is confident that, if they can cut off the supply line to the three Chelsea forwards, Barca have a very good chance of victory.

She said: “Our objective is to control the match, impose our style and to score the first goal.

“And, if we can do this, then Barcelona, maybe, will be champions.

“Our mission is to stop Harder, Kerr or Kirby receiving comfortable balls – if we don’t we could have serious problems. We have worked hard this week and the celebrations of the Spanish title were small because we are very focused on the Champions League Final.

“Our mentality is to win three titles this year.

“The first we have already, and now we can touch the second.” Barca beat Manchester City in the quarter-finals and Paris Saint-Germain in the semis, while Chelsea saw off Wolfsburg in the last eight and Bayern Munich in the last four.

Hermoso added: “We know Chelsea are not Paris Saint-Germain — they use the counter-attack a lot and are very strong in defence.

“They are quick in attack and perhaps the best club at direct football right now.

“Because of this, we know any chance on goal will be decisive.

“Winning against Manchester City and PSG did plenty for our confidence for this Final.”
