2HENRIKH MKHITARYAN provided the finish from Edin Dzeko’s assist as Roma beat arch-rivals Lazio in one of the world’s fiercest derbies.

Former Manchester United player Mkhitaryan rifled home a 42nd-minute strike after a neat pass from former Manchester City star Dzeko.

With 12 minutes remaining, the hosts clinched a killer second as substitute Pedro came off the bench to blast home a goal which confirmed a famous win for the hosts.

It was a first victory for Roma over Lazio since September 2018 as boss Paulo Fonseca, who will be replaced by Jose Mourinho at the end of the season, roared his delight.

Roma made a bright start and Mkhitaryan played in a delightful pass behind the Lazio defence, but Lorenzo Pellegrini was caught offside.

It was a warning to the visitors but they began to ask some questions of their own with a series of menacing attacks.

Midway through the first half, Lazio went close to opening the scoring through midfielder Luis Alberto.

He latched on to a fine pass from Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and hit a fierce shot which drew a smart stop from Roma keeper Daniel Fuzato.

On the half hour, Roma went desperatel­y close as Dzeko connected with Bruno Peres’ cross but failed to hit the target.
