Lewandowski’s Gerd mentality
ROBERT LEWANDOWSKI equalled Gerd Muller’s 49-year Bundesliga record for most goals scored in a season in BAYERN MUNICH’s draw with FREIBURG.
The striker has struck 40 goals in 28 league games this season – the same as German great Muller netted in the 1972 campaign.
Lewandowski celebrated the goal by lifting up his top to show a T-shirt underneath with Muller’s face on and the words “4ever Gerd”.
The Pole has one game left to break that record, against Augsburg, after his first-half penalty in yesterday’s 2-2 draw.
In the race for the Champions League spots, EINTRACHT FRANKFURT suffered a major blow after losing 4-3 at bottom club SCHALKE.
That leaves Borussia Dortmund in pole position to claim a top-four spot if they earn a fifth successive win over Mainz 05 today.
