TELLY duo Dick and Dom are finally making a show for adults – and hope the kids who loved them 20 years ago will tune in as grown-ups.
Pals Richard McCourt and Dominic Wood – both 44 – are in talks to host a game show based on their hit podcast, Cash From Chaos.
It involved playing games against a live studio audience, with Dick and Dom’s earnings up for grabs.
Richard said: “We’ve been moving to that millennial generation – the kids that grew up with us. Cash From Chaos is basically a game show, so the audience try to win what we’ve been paid.
“They play games against us to try and win our money. It went really well. We’re going to start running in the pilots for it, so fingers crossed.”
The pair hit the big time with kids’ show Dick and Dom in Da Bungalow, which ran on CBBC from 2002 to 2006.
Pre-pandemic, the pals were working as drum ’n’ bass DJs on the university and festivals circuit.
They were last seen as TV presenters in 2009 – hosting Sky One quiz show Are You Smarter Than A 10 Year Old? They have also popped up on various reality shows as guests over the years including MasterChef in 2013 and Celebrity Come Dine With Me.
Their children’s show won two BAFTA awards and was famous for its childish games, such as shouting out the word “bogies”. The game caught on like wildfire, with players taking turns to say “bogies” louder and louder in public places until someone gets too embarrassed to chant it.
The long-running skit was even debated in Parliament in 2005, with an outraged senior Tory MP asking then
Culture Secretary Tessa Jowell how the BBC could justify spending public money on such “lavatorial” content.
Despite the controversy, Richard says a new generation of children yell the word when they see him. He says: “Kids still play Bogies nowadays and people shout it at us all the time. I think we are on the third generation of kids growing up.
“The kids that have grown up with Dick and Dom in Da Bungalow are between 25 and 35, so they’ve had kids and are teaching their kids Bogies.”
He adds with a chuckle: “I’ll be in the supermarket and you can see them egg their kids on to shout bogies.”
