Time travel Sandals Montego Bay, Jamaica, celebrates 40 years of all-inclusive indulgence
The Sandals story began when the late Gordon “Butch” Stewart bought a run-down hotel on what he described as “the best and largest private beach in all of Montego Bay”.
He spent $4million renovating it, renamed it Sandals Montego Bay and opened it in 1981 with 99 rooms.
Sandals didn’t invent the all-inclusive concept here, but they did revolutionise it – offering multiple gourmet restaurants, premium drinks, land and watersports, as well as tips and transfers all included in the price of your stay.
The flagship property underwent a multimillion dollar refurbishment in 2019 with three new restaurants and two new bars, as well as oceanfront swim-up suites, an over-the-water wedding chapel and a newly refurbished swim-up pool bar, which was part of the original resort building and thought to be the first of its kind in the Caribbean.
As well as 12 global dining options, the resort offers six bars including Latitudes Over Water Bar with 360-degree ocean views, just off the edge of the pristine white-sand beach. Guests can choose to lounge on a hammock suspended above the ocean by day or enjoy sunset cocktails gathered around the intimate fire pits by night.
The “luxury included” concept has now reached extraordinary levels and guests staying in selected top tier Love Nest Butler Suite room categories at Sandals Montego Bay are met with a luxury BMW transfer upon touchdown at the airport and are given a mobile phone to reach their butler at any time.
Now with 16 stunning beachfront settings in Jamaica, Antigua, Saint
Lucia, the Bahamas, Barbados, Grenada and now Curaçao, Sandals Resorts says it offers more quality inclusions than any other resort company in the world.
