‘KALVIN WON’T PUSH FOR LEEDS EXIT’

- BY ROSS HEPPENSTALL

KALVIN PHILLIPS has no desire to chase a big-money move,

according to his agent – but would be open to talks on an improved deal.

The 25-year-old midfield star took centre stage in England’s Euro 2020 opener against Croatia last weekend, earning acclaim from across the continent and beyond.

Liverpool have been touted as potential suitors of the homegrown Leeds player (left), who signed a long-term deal at Elland Road two summers ago.

Asked if he expected Phillips to be the subject of big-money bids this summer, his agent Kevin Sharp added: “Not at the moment, but that could come out of the blue because these things happen.

“There may be clubs who are actually looking at Kalvin now. That’s par for the course being a footballer – the more successful you are, the higher level you play, it naturally breeds interest.

“Controlling that would be down to Leeds, but I’ve got no desire to move Kalvin and he’s got no desire to move – so he’ll just carry on playing well and enjoying his football for England and Leeds.”

Former Leeds player Sharp, who negotiated a new five-year deal for Phillips at Elland Road when Aston Villa tabled a bid two summers ago, will not agitate for a pay rise. Sharp said: “It’s not something we’re banging the door to make happen.

“But if Leeds want to improve that deal and protect their assets, we’d certainly be interested in sitting down with them.

“Kalvin’s desire was never to leave, it was to be rewarded and stay and play for his boyhood club, the team he supported as a kid.

“His value is going up, and long may that continue.”
