EMILY BLUNT ON NEW

- EMMA PRYER

SHE crawled naked over Tom Hanks in Charlie Wilson’s War and shared a passionate clinch in a loo with a confused Matt Damon in The Adjustment Bureau.

So Emily Blunt’s husband John Krasinski could be forgiven for getting a touch of the green-eyed monster, even though he is also an actor. But ask Emily how he feels about her latest screen kiss with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and the actress just laughs.

“Honestly, John is so used to me having to make out with other men,” she says.

“He’s immune to it at this point. That was part of the deal when we got married!”

British Emily – star of The Devil Wears Prada, Mary Poppins Returns and The Girl on the Train – is talking ahead of her latest movie, out next week.

It’s a Disney adventure comedy called Jungle Cruise, inspired by the Disneyland river ride and reminiscent of crowd-pleasers like Indiana Jones and Romancing the Stone.

She plays quirky scientist Dr Lily Houghton, on the hunt for a fabled magical Tree of Life.

Her brother McGregor is Brit comedian and actor Jack Whitehall, 33.

Lily meets her match when they team up with dubious riverboat captain Frank Wolff – played by Dwayne, 49 – as he tries to navigate them through the jungle.

AWKWARD

The former pro wrestler and Emily, 38, hit it off from the get-go.

“It was there right from the start,” says Emily. “There were certain scenes where we could not get a straight take. Even the crew were like, ‘C’mon guys!’ It was such a joy to work with him. He’s wonderful.”

She says they acted more like awkward teenagers during one kissing scene.

“We laughed through that too,” she says. “It was so funny. Dwayne was ruining takes just to try and make me laugh with his terrible jokes. But that is what you want from the skipper, you want bad jokes.”

The pair became so friendly that Dwayne invited her to his Miami home and gave her a tour of one of his home gyms, an out-house called Iron Paradise.

Emily says: “It was only afterwards that one of the producers said, ‘You know he never lets anyone inside that gym’. I had no idea.

“I felt very privileged and I can say that even though it smelled very manly, it was actually very clean in there!”

Humour and a love for work has helped Emily to bond with her co-stars down the years. And the same mindset has kept alive the spark between her and husband John, who first locked eyes on each other in a Los Angeles restaurant in 2008.

Emily, who had split from Canadian crooner Michael Bublé, was with a friend.

John – then known for his role in the US version of TV sitcom The Office – was dining with the actor Justin Theroux. The attraction was palpable. John, 41, already had a crush on Emily after watching The Devil Wears Prada dozens of times. Two years later they got married on George Clooney’s estate at Lake Como, Italy.

They now have two daughters – Hazel, seven, and Violet, five – and Emily puts the secret of their partnership down to “just love”.

“You’ve got to keep loving and loving, and just listening,” she said earlier this year.

They have never shied away from TV interviews as a couple, or clowning around together in front of cameras. Their humour and chemistry has helped cement them as

one of Hollywood’s most adored couples. They even have a celebrity couple’s tag – the Krunts, a mash-up of their surnames.

In 2018 John, 41, wrote, directed and starred in horror film A Quiet Place – co-starring with Emily for the first time. They admitted to being a little nervous about whether they could work together as well as they navigated marriage. Friends joked it would end in divorce. Instead, it resulted in a gong for Emily at the 2019 SAG awards.

Accepting the award, she paid tribute to John, saying: “I am going to share this completely with my husband, John Krasinski, because the entire experience of doing this with you has completely pierced my heart directly. You are a stunning film-maker. I am so lucky to be with you.”

His pride in Emily is clear too. In March, while promoting A Quiet Place II, John admitted: “She is without a doubt the most tremendous actress of our time in my opinion. She is the most incredible partner in writing and directing and set designs. She just has such good ideas.

“So I actually felt like I had my partner in all things on set, not just the best actress in the world. Anything I can think of, she makes 10 times better, so that’s a pretty good weapon to have on set.”

Emily has said: “I value him so much and he values me so much, not just in a personal sense but in a professional sense and we seem to be very aligned creatively.

“I think that helps. We respond to scenes
