WE’RE JUST FAB

Kop star insists: We’ve still plenty of options without pal Wijnaldum

- BY DAVID LYNCH

LIVERPOOL midfielder Fabinho reckons that Jurgen Klopp does NOT need to dip into the transfer market to replace Georginio Wijnaldum this summer.

The Reds have yet to bolster their midfield options, following the reliable Dutchman’s departure to Paris Saint-Germain, with early interest in Borussia Monchengladbach’s Florian Neuhaus still to be firmed up.

But Fabinho is confident that Klopp already has the tools at his disposal to cope with the loss of a man who played such a key role in a glorious recent spell at Anfield.

Fabinho said: “Gini was a really good friend of mine – I will miss him a lot.

“And the team will miss him because he played in all the games, was never injured, was a really good player – and a leader.

“He was a really special player for this club. For me, personally, he helped me a lot when I arrived at the club. I wish him all the best at

PSG.”

But the Brazilian went on to say that he and his team-mates are more than capable of picking up the slack on the pitch. He added: “Our squad has already shown we have good players to replace him. I think the midfield is the part of the team where we have more players.

“Hendo [Jordan Henderson], me, Thiago, Curtis [Jones], Millie [James Milner], Naby Keita, a lot of players can play in this position. I’m not worried.

Big-spending Manchester City are inevitably the bookmakers’ favourites

for both the Premier League and Champions League this season.

And Chelsea’s status as holders of the European crown has seen them talked up as a even greater potential challenger for the Premier League title this time.

But Fabinho is not interested in how Liverpool’s rivals are shaping – he knows the Reds have plenty of trophy-winning pedigree of their own.

He said: “This Liverpool squad has already won the Premier League and the Champions League.

“We have already shown what we are capable of. We don’t pay attention to the other teams.

“The top English teams are always strong. This year won’t be different.

“We will be strong and they will be strong as well. Hopefully, we will be a bit stronger than them.

“We just focus on us and working hard to be in the best way possible.”
