‘REJECT’ KEL GIVES OLD BOSS HELL

- BY SIMON MULLOCK

KELECHI IHEANACHO won the Community Shield for Leicester – and gave Pep Guardiola a blast from the past.

Iheanacho was not deemed good enough for Manchester City after playing under Guardiola for a season and was flogged to the Foxes for £25million back in 2017.

But the Nigerian striker took his revenge by coming off the bench to score the 89th-minute penalty that took the trophy back to Leicester for only the second time. Iheanacho forced Nathan Ake into giving away the spot-kick – and then kept his cool to secure the silverware for Brendan Rodgers’ FA Cup holders.

Iheanacho said: “I don’t know what to say, I think it’s mixed emotions.

“I’m really grateful to get the trophy today for my team, so I’m really happy.

“I think it was a penalty, he caught me, the referee saw it.

“I’ve been practising penalties. I missed one last season, so I’ve been practicing in pre-season. I had just one thing in my mind: just shoot at an angle and hit it hard – and that’s what I did.

“We have a great squad and whoever the manager puts in will deliver.

“I just know that if I come in, I have to make an impact.”

Leicester chairman Khun Top celebrated with Leicester’s players on the pitch at the final whistle.

Foxes boss Rodgers said: “There was a great feeling, coming here.

“Every Leicester player, fan, staff member coming here, it was a really special feeling.

“We wanted to take that into the game and keep that feeling going and, thankfully, we’ve done that.

“You have to be educated in your pressure because Man City are so good.

“We have this underdog mentality, so when we don’t have the ball, we have to fight and run to get it back.

“But when we do get the ball, we have to show our star quality and I thought the players did that today.”
