‘It wasn’t going to take much to push him over the edge’

- EXCLUSIVE BY PATRICK HILL, DANIEL O’MAHONEY and AMY SHARPE

“LONER” Jake Davison was hooked on violent video games by the age of just five and on internet porn by 11, former school pals say.

One said of the 22-year-old virgin: “It was just a matter of time until he was going to blow up.”

Another said: “He’d play Grand Theft Auto, Call of Duty and Left 4 Dead. He played games like that when he was very young. He was always obsessed with guns. In the playground he’d pretend to shoot other kids like they were zombies. I never thought he’d do it for real.”

Davison became reclusive after leaving school, becoming fixated on bodybuilding.

Police were examining 13 crime scenes, Davison’s computer and social media accounts.

A former pal, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said: “I knew he had severe mental health issues and his mum was trying to get him treatment for months, possibly years.

“He was always moody and upset, angry against women, against blokes.”

Another pal said: “Jake never had a lot of friends. He never had a girlfriend, which created frustration. I know he watched porn. He talked about that, even in primary school.

“Other kids respected him as a hardcase. When we were 10 he hit a friend so hard in the head he broke his own wrist. He was obsessed with America and was a big Trump fan. He loved the guns, food, lifestyle and freedom.”

A former colleague said: “He lived with his mum. He was a real loner. Colleagues called him ‘broken brain’. His mum was a very touchy subject. I’d joke, saying to him ‘let’s see a picture of your mum’. But he’d get really angry.”

Davison’s former school pal said: “Jake was diagnosed with ADHD and autism. He had it quite bad. I knew he was getting worse mentally.

“He always had a good relationship with his mum. She had a lot of side jobs, but struggled financially. She’d been recovering from cancer and didn’t have a lot of luck with guys.”

Another pal said: “I can’t get my head round him shooting his mum, he loved her to bits and she loved him. He did have a temper at school.

“It wasn’t going to take much to take him over the edge.”
