Oz saddled with lockdown
POLICE on horseback patrol Sydney’s Bondi beach as the city is plunged into a strict new lockdown from tonight.
On-the-spot fines for breaking rules have been raised from $1,000 to $5,000 (£2,600) as New South Wales premier Gladys Berejiklian said the state had its worst coronavirus day yet.
Anyone breaching the twoperson exercise rule or entering the state without a valid reason could have to pay £1,500.
“There will been enhanced random checkpoints at key roads, with accompanying signs and police have every ability to clamp down on people doing the wrong thing,” Ms Berejiklian said.
