GREY SEALS

-

The grey seal is one of the rarest seal species in the world – with more than 50% of the global population in UK waters.

They are lost to pollution, getting caught in plastic, and overfishing devastating their food stocks.

HELP THEM: Keep your distance if you spot them and keep dogs well away. Take part in beach cleans to remove plastic from their habitats. SEE THEM: About two thirds of a grey seal’s time is spent at sea where they hunt and feed – so if you manage to see one, count yourself very lucky.

One of the best places to spot them is at Blakeney

Point in Norfolk. Take a boat trip to see them lying in large numbers on the coast.

The colony there had just 25 pups born in 2001 but is now England’s largest, with 3,399 pups born over winter 2019/20. Go in winter and you may see their fuzzy young.
