Charities warned the timing will hit struggling families particularly hard.
They will already have to contend with losing an extra £20 of Universal Credit a week in October. ■■Customers of doorstep lender Provident Financial can now claim compensation for mis-sold loans.
While they will not be able to get their money back in full, the company has set aside £50million to meet claims from borrowers sold unaffordable loans.
The High Court backed a partial repayment scheme after the firm warned full payments would force it to go bust, leaving many victims with nothing.
